BSF IG cautions troops against drug abuse

SHILLONG: BSF IG Meghalaya Frontier, Pawan Kumar Dubey has asked the border guarding troops to stay away from addiction to drugs and help others to fight against drug abuse.
Addressing a gathering during the observation of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at Umpling on Sunday, the BSF official said, “We all should try to stop bad trends in the force and have to eradicate bad elements as it may lead to peril of one’s own life and family”.
He said that drug trafficking, once viewed largely as a social and criminal problem, has transformed in recent years into a major threat to the health and security of people and regions.
It may be mentioned that the BSF observed the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.
In this connection, the BSF also organized a rally consisting its personnel and students of BSF Senior Secondary School Umpling, in areas of Nongmynsong and NEGHRIHMS.
The rally was flagged off from BSF frontier headquarters to spread awareness among the people against the drug abuse and its illicit trafficking.
The students in huge number participated in the campaign with banners and hoardings. BSF senior secondary school students also performed street plays against drug abuse and illicit trafficking to spread the awareness.
