Health department ‘scam’ of 2003

SHILLONG: In an incident which hints at foul play, some key documents pertaining to an alleged scam in the Health department in 2003 have gone missing.
The Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Rankio Wankhar has filed an FIR complaining that the documents relating to the allegation of irregularities in purchase of medicines in the year 2003 have been misplaced and are untraceable. As per the FIR, the files appear to have been misplaced while shifting the office from Nokrek Building, Lower Lachumiere here to the permanent health complex at Red Hills Road, Laitumkhrah.
When contacted, Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek said that he will take up the matter with the department so as to initiate proceedings on how such important files could go missing.
Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang said that the police have only recently received the complaint and a case has been registered.  “We are on the job and the matter is being investigated,” he  said.
