SHILLONG: The FKJGP has slammed Lok Sabha MP from Shillong, Vincent Pala for his statement that pressure groups hindered the development of the State.
In a statement issued here, FKJGP president Joe Marwein said the pressure groups would register no protest if the government of the day was to bring about projects or development with transparency and proper accounts without affecting the society.
“In a democracy there must be an opposition party, pressure group, NGOs etc., to bring about good governance. Economic development should not hamper the society but bring about social development and promote environment,”  he added.
Pointing to the ill effects of development on the environment, Marwein said that the absence of proper planning and precautions in setting up of industries harms the environment, and benefit the company while the locals suffer.
In connection with influx, he pointed out that Meghalaya falls under special category state and it was the duty of the pressure groups to prevent illegal migration into the State.
