SHILLONG: Congress leader CB Syiem slammed the HSPDP’s Ri-Bhoi unit for allegedly interfering in the internal matters of the party.
Syiem took exception to HSPDP’s Ri-Bhoi unit president Pynwan Sylliang’s statement that he was unaware of the political developments in the State.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Syiem, who had resigned from the post of vice-chairman of the Meghalaya State level Public Grievances Committee, said, “I want the HSPDP to clarify on the claims that I wished to join the party to be formed by KHADC CEM, P.N. Syiem, and that I will either contest against D.D. Lapang from Nongpoh constituency or against C. Lyngdoh from Umsning constituency.”
Refuting the allegations of the HSPDP, Syiem said that he was not against other Congress leaders but his criticism was directed towards Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.
“This act of the HSPDP revealed that it wants to create problems within the party (Congress),” Syiem said.
It may be mentioned that Syiem had slammed the Chief Minister for the “failure of his government on all fronts”. Syiem, a close confidante of former Chief Minister DD Lapang, denied that his decision to resign has any connection with the ongoing rumblings within the ruling Congress.
