SHILLONG: In a theft committed with utmost precision, unknown miscreants stole over Rs 11 lakh from a State Bank of India branch at Umiam on Tuesday night.
The miscreants broke into the SBI’s ICAR branch at Umiam by tearing the collapsible gate and the safe vault with gas-cutters and stole a cash of Rs 11,86,966.
An amount of approximately Rs 87,667 was burnt while the miscreants were cutting the safe vault with the gas welding machine.
The miscreants also disconnected the electricity to the CCTV and alarm system of the strong room before committing the crime. Ri Bhoi SP G Kharwanlang, however, informed that police are examining the CCTV footages before the power was cut.
