Jowai couple gets ‘bravery award’

JOWAI: The State Bank of India, Ladthadlaboh Branch on Friday felicitated a couple with a ‘bravery award’ who risking their life foiled an attempt by a gang criminals to loot cash from an automated teller machine (ATM) of SBI in February this year.
Deputy Chief Minister RC Laloo handed over the cash award of Rs. 1 lakh and certificates of appreciation to the couple, Samuel Myrshiang and his wife, Wan Dkhar at a function held at North Liberty Higher Secondary School, here.
On February last at 3:00 am, some unknown ATM lifters broke into the SBI ATM of the Ladthadlaboh Branch.
However, Sameul Myrshiang, a chowkidar of the bank, after hearing a sound noise came out of his house and saw a group 4 to 5 people trying to uproot the ATM. One member the gang tried to stab him. However, their attempt to loot cash was foiled.
Laloo while congratulating the couple said that they have set an example for others.
