SK Jain’s sermon to family members of militants, criminals

SHILLONG: The acting DGP SK Jain has asked families of militants and criminals to refrain from colluding with their sons and   husbands as they too would become equal partner in their crimes and anti-people activities.
Talking to newsmen here on Friday after assuming charge, Jain   said that the operations against militant outfits and criminals   would continue in all parts of the state.
Spelling out his priorities, Jain said, “We will ensure that leaders, commanders and cadres of various militant groups are neutralized and forced to bow before the law of the land and security apparatus of the state.”
He informed that he would ensure that the Central armed police forces and state special operation teams deliver promising to take care of their concerns, if any, with support and cooperation of the state government.
He said that there was a need to fine tune internal administration of police at various levels.
According to him, rehabilitation of the surrendered militants and disbanded    groups would be one  of his priority areas “since it requires  concerted attention and systematic approach by all stakeholders”.
“It will be my endeavour to take police closer to public,” he said adding that police would not shy   away   from engaging  in dialogue   with various   public  groups, NGOs and community leaders to decide the way forward  in reducing conflict and creating a better understanding  on how police need to serve people.
Stating that in such engagement the law of land and policy of state will be the guiding principles for police, Jain said, “I propose to be available to members of public and public spirited groups at least once a week to interact on matter of public interest.”
Meanwhile, he also acknowledged the contributions of Rajiv Mehta who superannuatedon Thursday.
