SHILLONG: Despite the state government’s “zero tolerance policy against illegal check gates, several such gates have come up of late in the state.
The matter was brought to the notice of the state government by the Meghalaya Commercial Truck Owners and   Operators Association (MCTOOA) here on Friday.
The MCTOOA in a petition to the state Chief Secretary  KS Kropha complained that  several illegal tollgates have been erected along the national highway and the  state road by various tribal heads and Syiems.
The MCTOOA president Augustine Shanpru urged the   Chief Secretary to check the activities and ensure closure of all the illegal toll gates set up by Syiems.
It may be mentioned that Kropha in April last had instructed the deputy commissioners and police chief of all the districts to keep a check on illegal tollgates and   illegal   collection   in the Government check gates  and weighbridges.
