SHILLONG: Satish  Verma, Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), NEEPCO has come under scanner for filing alleged false complaint against P.C. Pankaj, Chairman and  Managing Director of the corporation, who had superannuated recently and two other senior officials  and also allegedly protecting the  HR Manager Abhishek Kumar who is facing suspension.
A day after Verma lodged complaints with police against the NEEPCO chief, in a statement issued here on Saturday NEEPCO said that the attempt of the CVO is to tarnish the image of the management .
“The allegation that CMD had extorted money from Kumar, Manager (HR) posted in vigilance wing is false, malicious and without any basis. In fact the management had initiated disciplinary proceedings against Kumar on this very account which the CVO is trying to scuttle by various dubious means,” NEEPCO said.
According to NEEPCO, the CVO had facilitated the non- compliance of suspension order by way of sending Kumar to an unknown destination from the date of suspension.
” It is surprising that the CVO has filed the FIRs now on  behalf of Kumar for the alleged extortion between May 2014 to August 2014 which itself smacks of ulterior motive.   Moreover, the intention of the CVO in filing a FIR against senior officials of NEEPCO on behalf of Kumar is itself questionable”, NEEPCO said.
According to NEEPCO, the allegation of the CVO that between June 23 – 30,  senior officials did not allow him to discharge his duties  by sealing  the office of  his  subordinate officer  Kumar is also false.
“In fact the CVO has been obstructing the due process of disciplinary proceedings against  Kumar by illegally allowing him to continue to work in vigilance wing , Shillong  inspite of his  transfer out of Shillong,” NEEPCO said .
Further the CVO allowed Kumar to go on tour to an unknown destination to  facilitate non -receipt of the suspension order by Kumar “who is still absconding and not recording his attendance”, the statement said.
“As regards sealing of the office chamber of  Kumar is concerned, the same  has already been unsealed on receipt of  communication from vigilance department”, the statement said.
Stating that the allegation that Rs 48,000 was extorted from Kumar by senior officials is false, NEEPCO said that the allegation has been made with mala-fide motive.
NEEPCO refereed to the media reports that  Verma, CVO , NEEPCO was issued a charge memo by the Ministry of Home Affairs,  for  being absent from duty, unauthorisedly travelling without permission and for violation of service conduct rules  for officers of All India Services.
“This only reflects the conspiracy angle to malign the image of the NEEPCO management” the statement added.
