Accused in failed bank robbery lands in police net

SHILLONG: South West Khasi Hills Police on Monday arrested one person said to be allegedly involved in making a futile attempt to rob the Meghalaya Rural Bank branch at Mawkyrwat.
The botched burglary attempt took place on the intervening night of June 4 and 5.
South West Khasi Hills district police chief Herbert Lyngdoh said based on source information, police conducted a raid at Mawseb village and arrested the main accused identified as Wellborn Lyngdoh (23).
His arrest led to the seizure of 22 ATM cards of Meghalaya Rural Bank, Mawthawpdah, one digital camera, one handheld camera, one emergency light, one charger and fishing equipments stolen from several shops in Mawthawpdah Bazar. Two rods allegedly used by him to break open the bank locks were also recovered.
Police investigation is on and more arrests are likely to be made.
