Unfortunate, insensitive: Aamir on Salman’s rape analogy

Bollywood superstar     Aamir Khan today     came out in the open branding Salman Khan’s controversial rape comments as “unfortunate” and “insensitive”.
“Well, I am going by the media reports because I was not present when this happened. But as per the media reports (and) whatever I have read which quotes him as saying certain things… I feel what he said was rather unfortunate and rather insensitive.
That’s what I feel,” Aamir said at the launch of ‘Dangal’ poster here. Aamir, 51, said he has not spoken to Salman on the issue. When asked if he would give any advice to his “Andaz Apna Apna” co-star on this, the actor said, “Who am I to give advice?” Salman, 50, had kicked up a storm when he compared himself to a raped woman while taking about the the physically gruelling shoot of Sultan during a group interview with journalists last month.
“While shooting, during those six hours, there’d be so much of lifting and thrusting on the ground involved. That was tough for me because if I was lifting, I’d have to lift the same 120-kilo guy 10 times for 10 different angles. And likewise, get thrown that many times on the ground.
“This act is not repeated that many times in the real fights in the ring. When I used to walk out of the ring, after the shoot, I used to feel like a raped woman walking out…,” Salman had said. “I don’t think I should have…”, Salman had added, suggesting he should not have made such a comparison. His father Salim Khan took to Twitter to apologise on Salman’s behalf, saying it was a wrong analogy but the actor kept mum on the issue despite the demands for an apology by womens’ group and people on social media. When asked to react on Salman’s comments, Shah Rukh Khan had said he would not pass a judgement on someone else.
“In the last few years, I have realised that I made so many inappropriate comments myself. I don’t think I am someone to sit and judge somebody else’s comments to be very honest. It’s about taking sides or not taking sides,” Shah Rukh had said.
Actress Kangana Ranaut had described the rape analogy as a “horrible thing to say” but also said she was against pointing fingers.
Director Anurag Kashyap had called it a “thoughtless and daft” thing to say. Director Subhash Ghai, Sonu Sood, Nawazuddin Siddiqui were some of the people who defended Salman saying his intensions were not wrong.
When asked by the National Commission of Women to apologise for his remarks. (PTI)
