SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will inaugurate the district jail at Nongstoin on July 8.
The district jail, located at Mawsyntai village in Ri Bhoi, can accommodate up to 100 inmates, thereby helping to decongest the overcrowded Shillong district jail.
Construction of the jail was delayed due to financial constraints. Initially, the cost of the jail project was estimated at Rs 5.50 crore. The estimate was later revised to Rs 6.25 crore.
The jail project was initially scheduled to be completed in 2010.
