Assam police summons Kurliya bridge contractor

JOWAI: There have been numerous attempts by Assam police personnel to disrupt construction of the Kurliya bridge connecting West Jaintia Hills and the disputed Block I areas across River Myntang, with the latest obstruction by Assam police stationed at Jrikyndeng in Karbi Anglong district.
Recently, Assam police summoned the contractor and also the supervisor of the labourers who were engaged in the construction work.
An FIR was also filed by Assam police in this regard at Jrikyndeng police station.
Sources said Assam police has   registered a case under Section 91 CrPC in related to the case dated April, 2016 under Section 120/121/447/ 121(a) in which the Assam police had halted the construction work of the bridge.
In this regard, the West Jaintia Hills deputy commissioner has instructed the contractor that he should continue to implement the project for the welfare of the people residing in the area.
