Public hearing organised in JH to discuss road expansion project

JOWAI: The Meghalaya Institute of Governance, under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, conducted a public hearing on Tuesday for widening of NH-40(E) Jowai- Amlarem- Dawki road.
The road from Lad-Muphlang till Dawki is a double lane road but from Lad-Muphlang to Jowai the road is still single lane. In view of this, the government has proposed to widen the road and has sanctioned Rs 4.60 crore for payment of land compensation.
However, due to the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 the sanction will be increased to Rs 6. 77 crore approximately, informed West Jaintia Hills Addl. Deputy Commissioner D.M. Wahlang.
The public hearing was attended by residents of Demthring, Pynthor Langtein and Jowai. The land owners have expressed their willingness to hand over their land to the government for the purpose of widening of the road.
The public hearing was chaired by Aiban Swer, OSD, Meghalaya Institute of Governance.
