Cyber assistance cell set for launch

SHILLONG:  Come Thursday, the capital city will have the first cyber assistance cell to handle growing cases criminal activities through mobile phones and internet.
Informing this here on Tuesday, the Director General of Police (DGP) SK Jain said that the cell would render necessary assistance to people who faces such harassments like obscene call and SMS on mobiles, online pornography, cyber stalking etc and the identity of the complainant will be kept confidential as per law of the land.
Divulging more about the cell, Jain informed altogether 24 people have been trained up to take up the cases pertaining to cyber crimes.
Stating that ordinary crimes now-a-days have cyber contents, he said people would be assisted if such cases are to be further pursued by way of formal complaint at the concerned police station or at the cyber crime police stations.
The contact details of the cyber assistance cells are  0364- 2504001,  9615191002 and email is   [email protected]  and the cell will function from 10am to 6 pm on all working days.
Stating that lot of people in Meghalaya are receiving nuisance calls, the DGP asserted that criminals have gone to the extent of creating fake   Facebook profiles of people.
Reacting to a query regarding militants using social websites to radicalize youths, he said that police were keeping tab of such pages and profiles.
Meghalaya police had setup  a ‘Cyber Crime Police Station (CCPS)’, a first of its kind, to investigate cyber and internet related crimes in April this year.
