SHILLONG: NPP legislator James Sangma has asked the Congress legislator Dikkanchi Shira, who unsuccessfully contested against his brother Conrad Sangma in the by-poll to Tura Lok Sabha seat, to accept the defeat gracefully instead of taking legal recourse.
Dikkanchi recently filed a petition in the High Court of Meghalaya citing that the NPP candidate misled the voters in violation of the Representation of People Act while dealing with the release of MGNREGS fund.
“It is unfortunate that Dikkanchi woke up from slumber now though there was ample time during her campaign to lodge complaint if any,” James told reporters on Tuesday.
NPP leader Conrad Sangma against whom Dikkanchi filed the case maintained that he was nobody to stop the disbursement of funds under MGNREGS.
“I have no power to stop money sanctioned by the government”, Conrad said.
However, Conrad added that his lawyer is working on the details so that he can file the reply. “I received the petition only yesterday, my lawyer is examining the matter”, Conrad said.
