TURA: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi has issued a clarification stating that the new order and guidelines for liquor stores should read as “the distance of the liquor store from the middle of the national or state highway should not be less than 50 meters in the case of urban areas and 100 metres in case of rural areas”.
The clarification further states that the distance of liquor stores should be “not less than 200 metres away from educational institutions and places of worship” as these are the minimum distances which the liquor stores have to follow to be away from national and state highways and places of worship and educational institutions. He added that the earlier order which mentioned liquor stores “should not exceed 50 metres in urban and 100 metres in rural areas and shall not be more than 200 metres from educational institutions” was due to a typo error.
