Delivery of baby in toilet of Williamnagar hospital

SHILLONG: Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek has sought a detailed report from the Williamangar Civil Hospital administration on the incident of a woman delivering a baby in the hospital toilet.
“I have told the hospital administration to furnish exactly what had happened on that day,” Hek said.  The Minister also assured that action would be taken if anyone is found guilty.
The incident happened on July 7 and the matter came to light after the FKJGP lodged a complaint in this connection.
“The woman identified as Pagaline Marak was admitted to the hospital for delivery but due to negligence of the nurses on duty she was forced to go to the toilet and deliver the baby all alone,” the FKJGP had said.
The hospital authorities, however, refuted the charge of dereliction of duty claiming that the woman on her own went to the toilet and locked the door from inside.
Meanwhile, the FKJGP’s EGH unit has clarified that  the patient’s husband seeing the condition of his wife repeatedly called the on-duty nurses to examine her but the on-duty nurses turned a deaf ear to his plea. The FKJGP also said that the incident at Samanda PHC took place in June this year and not last year as stated earlier.
