HC orders govt to clear payments for requisitioned vehicles

West Garo Hills police chief appears before Court

SHILLONG: West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police M.K. Singh on Friday appeared before the High Court of Meghalaya after he was directed by the court to submit a detailed report on why payments to vehicles requisitioned for law and order purposes in the district from 2011 to 2015 have not been made yet.
In the hearing, the counsel for the State government submitted that the SP has already taken up the matter pertaining to the payment of requisitioned vehicles and the money is lying in the civil deposit under the control of the Finance department.
According to the government counsel, the SP has further written a letter to the Headquarter of Police department.
After hearing the submissions advanced by the government counsel as well as the Superintendent of Police, the State government was directed to expedite the matter and to release the amount in accordance with the rules and laws within a month.
The government counsel also brought to the notice of the court that the vehicle bearing No. ML07 7078 (Safari) has been requisitioned by the West Garo Hills through Bajengdoba Outpost of North Garo Hills, Meghalaya and further submitted that in the case pertaining to the vehicle bearing Registration No. ML08 D 6343, the petitioner needs to submit the original documents to the Office of the Superintendent of Police, West Garo Hills, for verification.
The matter has been listed after August 22 for progress report and order.
It may be mentioned that several petitioners had filed a plea before the court complaining that they had not received payment for their vehicles which had been requisitioned for law and order purpose in West Garo Hills district from 2011-2015 after which the court directed the Superintendent of Police, West Garo Hills, to appear before the court and submit a detailed report on the matter.
