SHILLONG: The Langrin Youth Welfare Association (LYWA) has voiced its opposition to the tender notice floated by Uranium Corporation of India (UCIL) and has asked the State government and the KHADC to take action against the UCIL.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, LYWA B.S. Lyngdoh, president of the association said, “We demand termination of the road project as it will bring no benefit to the people but will instead prove fatal to human lives and the environment. The road project is to facilitate uranium mining as there is proof of presence of uranium at Mawthabah.”
“The State government should not grant any NOC to the UCIL and should initiate strong action against the director and managing director for floating the tender,” LYWA said.
The LYWA also demanded the cancellation of all proposed activities of the UCIL at Phodkylleng Pyndensohiong Mawthabah.
The association has submitted a memorandum to the chief minister expressing their opposition to the UCIL tender and will submit a similar memorandum to the KHADC CEM.
