Probe sought into nurse’s death
SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Social Welfare Organisation has asked the State government to constitute an investigation to look into the mysterious death of trainee nurse Iahunlang Lyngdoh Nongrang from Jaiaw who died after she reportedly fell from the terrace of her hostel in New Delhi on Tuesday night.
The organization raised doubts as to the circumstances that led to her death and added that the State government should order an investigation to bring a sense of safety to the people.
Gun seized at Shallang, 2 held
NONGSTOIN: Shallang police on Thursday night conducted a raid in the house of one Ajay Gurung at Shallang market and recovered a country made revolver and two live ammunition.
Accordingly, the items were seized and a case was registered at Shallang PS under the Arms Act.
In this connection, Ajay Gurung and Kitbok Rongrin of Shallang were arrested and forwarded before the court.
One killed in assault in WGH
SHILLONG: One person died after being allegedly assaulted by four persons at Pushkinipara in West Garo Hills on July 12.
Police informed that Kholil Sheikh, Hashirul Islam, Okil Sheikh and Jahanur Sheikh allegedly attacked one Md. Bodiol Sheikh while he was on his way to Kalithan Market in Pushkinipara.
He sustained injuries and was removed to Phulbari CHC where he died.
An FIR in this regard has been lodged by one Md. Sahadot Ali, a relative of the victim.
Tree plantation drive in EJH
JOWAI: Meghalaya Cement Limited (MCL), also known as Topcem Cement, situated in Thangskai village in East Jaintia Hills, initiated steps for a green premises by recently launching a tree plantation programme.
The plantation was done under the guidance of Senior Environment Engineer, Central Pollution Control Board, Dr. Shantanu Kumar Dutta.
On Tuesday, around 12500 saplings of 53 species were planted the premises of the cement factory.
CRPF personnel also participated in the drive.
Unidentified body recovered
SHILLONG: Police recovered the body of an unidentified person from the roadside near Lumdiengngan village on the Shillong bypass on the morning of July 11. Necessary formalities were observed.
SPARK programme
SHILLONG: SPARK conducted a month long programme to observe the World Day Against Child Labour. Several stakeholders were involved in the programme which witnessed awareness programmes and sensitization on issues pertaining to child labour and the role of the community.
Recreational activities were also organised to give platform to the child labourers to enjoy their childhood long lost in poverty.
The National De-worming Day was also observed wherein medicines were provided by Rotary Club of Shillong to support the cause.
