Four rhino poachers nabbed in Assam

Guwahati: Four most wanted rhino poachers were arrested in Assam even as the Special Task Force (STF) and Assam Police geared up vigil against rhino poachers at juncture when gushing flood water is forcing rhinos to flee their natural habitat inside national parks and wild life sanctuaries in the state.
Police on Sunday informed that one of the most wanted rhino poachers in the state, Abdul Hanan was arrested on Sunday.
He hails from Mayong area in Marigaon district where Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary which has highest concentration of one-horned rhinos on the globe, is located.
Three more poachers were arrested from Karbi Anglong district areas near Kaziranga National Park (KNP) and arms and ammunition were recovered from them.
The arrested poachers were identified as Foto Marak, Kana Lama and Moniram Orang.
The STF recovered one .303 rifle, one 303 magazine, 12 rounds of .303 ammunition, one .22 rifle with magazine and 22 rounds of ammunition and two silencers on the basis of confession made by the arrested poachers.
Meanwhile, wildlife personnel have mounted vigil in and around the flood affected Kaziranga National Park and Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary even as forest minister Promila Rani Brahma has sought help from people livening in the vicinity of wildlife protection areas to cooperate with authorities in preventing poaching of wildlife in the state.
