DSO Ri-Bhoi to conduct sports clinic on referee training programme  
Shillong: The office of the District Sports Officer, Ri-Bhoi District, will conduct sports clinic on referee training programme in four blocks. In Umsning Block the programme will start from August 2 and the last date for enrollment is July 29. In Nongpoh, the programme will begin from August 9 and the last date for enrollment is August 5. In Umling Block, the programme is scheduled to commence from August 16 and the last date for enrollment is August 12. In Jirang Block, the programme will start from August 23 and the last date for enrollment is August 19. Interested candidates in both men and women category under the age of 16 to 35 are to contact the office of the District Sports Officer for more information.

Shillong: The Hynniewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) Mawlai Umjaiur Unit commemorated the 181st death anniversary of U Tirot Sing Syiem by inagurating the 2nd Under-16 U Tirot Sing Syiem Football 2016 at Madan Heh mini stadium on Saturday by the Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Paiem Ricky Nelson Syiem who was also the Chief Guest. Also present in the function was Myntri B. Shanpru, Secretary Shnong ka Umjaiur W. Kharbudon , HYC Womens’ Wing , HYC Mawlai Circle and Central Body.
Cricketer Karun Nair saved as snake boat capsizes
Pathanamathitta: Two youth were still missing while upcoming Indian cricketer Karun Nair had a narrow escape as the snake boat in which around 100 persons were travelling, capsized in river Pampa in this Kerala district on Sunday, police said. Nair along with the others were taking part in a temple festival, “Valla Sadya’, a celebration of the Sree Parthasarathy Temple near here. (IANS)
