SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Social Welfare Organisation (HSWO) central body has extended its support to the anti-uranium mining stand of the FKJGP and the KSU among others. The pressure groups are opposing the proposed two-lane Nongstoin-Wahkaji-Mawthabah road project. The HSWO also urged the KHADC to refrain from issue any NOC to the Uranium Corporation on India in this regard. Meanwhile, the HSWO has decided to wait for the order of the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner to close down the ‘illegal’ range/beat office of the Forest department of the KHADC on the National highway at Mawiong and Puriang set up for collecting money from trucks carrying timber.
The organization has already sent complaint to the DC who assured them that magistrates will be deputed in the area to check any illegal practice.
Further, the organization will meet the Chief Secretary to seek his intervention in the matter.
