3 pvt aviation cos willing to operate from Umroi

SHILLONG:   Three private aviation companies including Jet Airways have expressed their willingness to operate flight from Umroi, Lilabari and Tezpur airport.
Informing this here on Monday, the North Eastern Council (NEC)  Secretary R Muivah said that  three private companies   want to run  50 -seater aircraft from Umroi (Shillong), Lilabari (Dibrugarh) and Tezpur airports with a subsidy of Rs 12. 50  crore.
Stating that NEC is providing Rs 47  crore every year to Alliance Air as Viability Gap Funding (VGF), Muivah pointed out that the three bidders wanted to connect Shillong airport with Guwahati and Kolkata.
According to him, the expression of interest (EOI) has been floated  and the technical bid will be finalized on July  29. “The entire process is likely to take 2 to 3 months time, he said.
The recently-held NEC plenary approved the runway expansion of the Shillong airport and NEC is likely to sanction Rs 184  crore for the purpose.
He also informed that the service of the Alliance Air for Shillong airport has been extended to September.
Reacting to a query about the frequent cancellation of flights from Shillong, he said passengers who face problem can write to him and he would take up the matter with the concerned authorities.
