SHILLONG: Meghalaya is among the three states which have not so far submitted their project proposals to the North Eastern Council (NEC). The other two states are Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
Informing this to the media persons here on Monday, the NEC Secretary R Muivah said that so far only Mizoram and Manipur have submitted their proposals and fund below Rs 100 crore (each) has been sanctioned to these two states.
“I am in touch with the Chief Secretary and Secretary, Planning Department, government of Meghalaya and I hope that they would their proposals as early as possible,” he said.
The statement of the NEC secretary assumes significance as Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma during the 65th plenary of the Council held in Shillong earlier this year had lamented that there was a continuous decline in the actual release of fund to the NEC by the Union government which has compelled many states to avoid taking up important projects despite those being prioritized.
The meeting for finalizing the proposals for Sikkim will be held on Tuesday.
He also said that the erstwhile Government in Assam had submitted its proposal, but since there is a change of guard, the new government might revise the proposal.
Reacting to a query about the meager allocation of fund from the Centre for NEC, he said that the matter has been taken up with the DoNER ministry.
