TURA: A five-member delegation of the National People’s Party (NPP) from South Garo Hills recently met Tura MP Conrad K Sangma and submitted a memorandum urging him to look into various grievances pertaining to the people of the district.
The delegation which was led by former Baghmara MLA, Satto R Marak and district president, Milan M Sangma apprised the new MP among others, the problems being faced by the people of the district due to the sudden NGT ban on coal mining.
It urged Sangma to take up the matter with the concerned authorities at the earliest to find a solution to the problem.
Reminding him of the earlier letter written by Union Minister of Communication and IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad to then Tura MP, PA Sangma in November 2014 regarding the installation of mobile towers in Garo Hills, the delegation urged Sangma to follow up the matter to ensure mobile connectivity in different parts of South Garo Hills.
Pointing to the deplorable condition of NH-62, especially the stretch of road from Dangsa Awe to Karonggre Dalu, the delegation urged the Tura MP to facilitate the repair of the said road in view of the A’chik Baptist Dal’gipa Krima Sobha scheduled to be held at Karukol in February 2017. The construction of the Ranikor-Baghmara double lane road (NH-44E) was also one of the main points raised by the delegation during the meeting. It urged Sangma to ensure that work on the project is started at the earliest.
The new MP was also invited to visit different parts of South Garo Hills to get a first hand report of the grievances being faced by the people.
Meanwhile, Conrad Sangma is said to have assured the delegation that all of the issues put forth would be looked into with utmost priority.
With regard to the installation of mobile towers, Conrad is said to have assured that his father’s unfulfilled dream would soon become a reality and areas like Chokpot, Silkigre, Sibbari, Gasuapara, Mindikgre-Githinggre, Masighat, Rugapara, Nekora, Mahadeo, Rongara, Dambuk and others would have mobile connection very soon.
