NONGSTOIN: Going through turmoil since the by-election to the Nongstoin Assembly constituency, the Nongstoin Block Congress Committee (NBCC) finally elected a “president of its choice” in Gabriel Wahlang during a general meeting held here on Thursday.
A number of other office bearers were also elected on the occasion with Simpleman Marwein named the vice president and BK Bani the treasurer among others.
The problem in the NBCC started soon after around hundred senior members of the party were expelled on April 17 this year for lodging a complaint against the then president Albinus Kharbani, accusing him of backing the HSPDP in the by-poll. The April 17 meeting was held to elect a new president of the NBCC but instead Kharbani was elected unopposed following the expulsion of the Congress members.
When the expelled members shot off a complaint to the MPCC in this regard, Gabriel Wahlang was appointed convener to hold the general meeting for election of new NBCC office bearers.
Subsequently in the general meeting held on Thursday Wahlang was elected the president of the NBCC.
