SHILLONG: The conglomerate of pressure groups comprising GSU Southern Zone, FKJGP, ADE and Baghmara Cityzens Forum (BCF) has accused the Baghmara SP of assaulting innocent civilians, while the SP said that he is facing discrimination.
The pressure groups alleged that after the SP Anand Mishra went to Rongara Police station on June 30,  he summoned Amal Sarkar and assaulted him by saying that, he was indulging in illegal extortion of money from Rongara Bazaar.
However, pressure groups said that Sarkar was doing the regular collection of money from Rongara Bazaar as he is currently looking after the Bazaar which was earlier supervised by the District Council.
“Baghmara SP kept on assaulting him without any knowledge of the fact,” they said.
According to the pressure groups, the SP had earlier on May 23 assaulted one Sentush R. Sangma who was earning his livelihood by working in Teer Counter near Simsang bridge junction.
Later, Mishra summoned one Thoney G. Momin in Rongara police station and assaulted him too by saying that he was indulged in anti-social activities in the region.
“Anand Mishra accused him by stating that he was aiding insurgent groups,” the pressure groups alleged.
They further  said that the wife of South Garo Hills SP is creating problem for the people by doing evening walk and cycling exercise over Simsang bridge. “While his wife does evening walk and cycling, the SP does not allow anyone to pass through the bridge”, they said.
Irked with the alleged high handedness, the pressure groups have demanded action against the police official. However, Mishra said that he has come hard on the negative elements in the district and this is the reason for all the stories being made up against him.
Mishra said that he had summoned Amol Sarkar and Thoney G. Momin as police has information that they were agents of militant groups especially ASAK.
“I only questioned them as we have inputs about their illegal activities but we don’t have evidence,” he said, adding that as an SP he has the right to question any suspect.
Reacting to a query about the incident at Simsang bridge, he said that he never stops anyone from passing through the bridge and he infact always interact with the youngsters there.
According to him, on the day of incident, his wife was standing with a cycle and one maruti car was continuously blowing horn and one of the persons inside the vehicle made derogatory remarks against his wife.
The SP and the police personnel even asked the vehicle to stop, but it sped away from the scene.
Later, the occupants of the vehicle under the influence of liquor appeared before the SP and  one of them admitted that he made the improper comment of ‘Bengal lady “ attributed to the police officer’s wife.
“I am being discriminated here and my sincerity is becoming my enemy and I will request for a transfer to Assam,” Mishra said.
