SHILLONG: The executive committee of the Federation of All Meghalaya Ad hoc Secondary Teachers Association (FAMASTA) held a meeting here on Monday and unanimously decided to skip the agitation programme scheduled by the Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Associations of Meghalaya (JACATAM) from July 27.
In a statement issued here, FAMASTA secretary M. Pyrtuh said they will only lend moral support to JACATAM for the benefit of the teaching fraternity.
On the other hand, JACATAM on Monday clarified that the scheduled dharna will be held on July 27-28 in the respective zones and not the respective schools as reported earlier.
The respective zones will include Mawkhar-Jaiaw zone at Khasi National Dorbar Hall and Mawprem zone at Anath Ashram school ground, besides the Mawlai zone, Police Bazaar zone, Laitumkhrah zone, Upper Shillong zone, Nongthymmai zone etc., and others which are yet to announce the venue for the dharna, informed JACATAM organising secretary Kular Khongjirem said.
Meanwhile, with a view to take the demand for service provincialization forward, the Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers’ and employees’ Association (GHDSTEA) has announced a sit-in dharna at two different locations from July 27 to 29.
The teachers will begin their strike at the school unit on July 27 and 28 where the deficit staff will boycott their classes and gather at their respective schools displaying placards with a demand for service provincialization.
On July 29, the members of the GHDSTEA along with the members of other teacher organizations will shift to the DSEO office and stage a silent sit-in dharna from 11 AM to 3 PM.
A letter of intimation in this regard has also been submitted to the respective deputy commissioners of all five Garo Hills districts.
