Ampati to celebrate ‘Independence Fortnight’

AMPATI: The South West Garo Hills District Administration will celebrate the “Independence Fortnight 2016” in collaboration with the line departments and local organizations.
As part of the initiative, various programmes will be held across the district leading up to the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, next.
This was decided in a meeting of all the district heads of offices, heads of institutions and local committees on Monday to chalk out programmes for the celebration under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, CVD Diengdoh, who stressed on the involvement of all the people of the district in the event.
The fortnight-long celebration will kick-start on August 5 with a theme-based quiz competition for the school children of the district. Awareness-cum-voluntary cleaning drives would be undertaken across the district under the Chief Minister’s Youth for Green Campaign. Under the programme all the district offices and institutions have also been directed to carry out cleaning drives in their respective premises and the final cleaning drive would be conducted at Ampati Bazar on August 13.
The Independence Cup football tournament would also be organized with the finals to be played on August 15.
An Independence Day Run will be organized in Ampati and block headquarters while Road Safety Week will be observed to mark the celebrations which would culminate with the Independence Day celebration on August 15.
