Gang busted

TURA: A gang of extortionists who were threatening traders and businessmen by posing as ASAK militants to collect money has been busted with the arrest of two key members by North Garo Hills police on Sunday.
The gang had been issuing demand notes in the name of ASAK to unsuspecting victims and their modus operandi would be to   dispatch one self loading rifle (SLR) bullet with the note to instill fear on their victims.
Police laid a trap for the gang at Chima Apal village of North Garo Hills on Sunday afternoon when the gang had gone there to receive their extortion money.
They arrested cadres are Manjek Sangma (18) and Norman Marak (26), both hailing from Samurai village of the same district.
They leader of the gang, identified as Sengkal Momin, however managed to flee during the operation.
Sengkal was arrested earlier in connection with a robbery case.
