SHILLONG: One year since the country lost its ‘People’s President’, the students of IIM Shillong – with whom he had spent his last moments – remembered him fondly and over 200 students joined hands on Tuesday and undertook a tree plantation drive – Prakriti – planting saplings around Shillong.
On the occasion, Dr. Amitabha De, Director, IIM Shillong said “Dr. Kalam’s legacy is to make the planet more liveable, not only for the present, but for future generations as well. To pay our respects to the legend, we would name the auditorium in our new campus after Dr. Kalam with a life size statue of him to be   placed outside the new auditorium.”
Dr. Basav Roychoudhury, Chairperson PGPM, said, “The plantation drive is our small initiative to making the planet more liveable focusing on aspects related to the environment as well as human life.”
On Wednesday, to commemorate the first death anniversary of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the Institute will pay homage to remember the beloved President and his ideals.
The Institute will launch the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Lecture Series, a platform where eminent personalities from different spheres would be invited to share their experience towards ‘making a better planet’.
The First Lecture of the Series would be delivered at the commemoration event by Dr. Manas K. Mandal, Distinguished Scientist and Director General – Life Sciences, Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
