FICN used to buy cattle for smuggling, reveals accused

SHILLONG: The BSF troops deployed at Maheshkhola, South Garo Hills apprehended an FICN racketeer from the Indo-Bangladesh Border Fence in the area on Wednesday. The apprehended person was identified as Kamrul Islam (22) from Sunamganj, Bangladesh.
FICN worth Rs 27,000, ganja and a mobile phone were recovered from the possession of the accused who had infiltrated into Indian territory.
The accused revealed that he had been involved in petty smuggling of liquor and forest produce from India to Bangladesh earlier. Subsequently, he came into contact with some Bangladeshi racketeers who were involved in smuggling of cattle and FICN. He was lured by them into the crime.
This time he had come to pay FICN as advance money for cattle consignment to an Indian namely Jobson Sangma resident of Gandhigiri, Maheshkhola.
FICN and cattle smuggling are closely linked as FICN is used to make payments for the items smuggled from India to Bangladesh.
