Dibrugarh varsity student assaulted, two arrested

Guwahati: Two persons identified as Imran and Jaheen, were arrested by police in connection with assault on a girl student of Dibrugarh University’s in Assam while police were on the look-out for four others involved in the case.
Police informed that six persons travelling in a Tata Sumo which was seized by police later, abducted the student after she had alighted alone from a night bus at Dibrugarh town in eastern Assam in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The accused allegedly assaulted the hapless girl inside the moving vehicle before dumping her at Chowkidingi area in the heart of the city.
She was then spotted by locals who alerted the police.
The girl hails from Nagaon district of central Assam and is studying in the university classes in Dibrugarh. She was later treated in a hospital and handed over to her parents who had rushed there on Tuesday.
A mob of public on Wednesday tried to damage the Tata Sumo vehicles used by the criminals inside a police station in Dibrugarh city and demanded immediate arrest of the rest four culprits. Police were forced to use force to drive away the enraged residents of the city who laid siege to the police station for some time on Wednesday.
