SHILLONG: A.L. Hek, who has been appointed as one of the vice-presidents of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee, has expressed happiness over his elevation from the post of block president.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Wednesday, the former health and family welfare minister said he received the letter from MPCC on Wednesday informing him about the party’s decision to appoint him as the vice president.
Reacting to a query about his sudden ouster from the Cabinet last week, Hek said this was a regular exercise and that all political parties do it as per the requirement.
Asked if he has been given the post of vice president to appease him, the former minister said it was the prerogative of the chief minister to decide whether he should be in the Cabinet.
The former minister said he would now devote more time on his constituency. “I have to see that a lot of programmes, which have been sanctioned this financial year, for my constituency are implemented at the earliest,” he added.
