NONGPOH: Residents of Nongrimjyrmie in Ri-Bhoi district are in the dark about restoration of power supply even after more than two weeks.
The village has no electricity since August 12 following an MeECL transformer failure but no efforts have been made to restore power supply.
MeECL’s lackadaisical attitude prompted the Confederation of Ri-Bhoi People (CORP) Central Zone, led by its president Wanbok Suphai, accompanied by members of the confederation from Umdihar Zone, to meet the assistant engineer at MeECL-Nongpoh on Thursday to discuss the issue.
The confederation members tried to meet the CEO of the state power distributor but he was not available in his office. Instead, the assistant engineer told the delegation that the damaged transformer could not be replaced immediately “as MeECL does not have a spare transformer”.
The engineer, however, said he would take up the matter with his superiors at the earliest so that power is restored in Nongrimjyrmie soon.
CORP Central Zone president Suphai said the Dorbar Shnong Nongrimjyrmie had met the CEO earlier this month and requested him to restore electricity, but nothing has been done by MeECL.
