SHILLONG: The transport officer of West Garo Hills District has ordered strict action against any vehicle flouting the Motor Vehicles Act.
The District Transport officer has asked its enforcement staff to check the vehicles plying in the region from October 1-30 and submit a report. The order has been issued following the recommendations of the Supreme Court committee on road safety.  West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi said there have been several cases of rash driving and non-renewal of licences in recent times. He added that in several cases, vehicles were found plying without proper permits.
