Three convicted for illegal sale of liquor

SHILLONG: The continued efforts of Sadar police station to check consumption of illegal liquor received a shot in the arm when the Court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class convicted three persons known for illegal sale of alcohol in restaurants in the city.
The accused have been identified as Phuntsok Tashi and Dolma Lama of Golden Dragon Restaurant and Ambassador Restaurant, respectively, both in Police Bazaar, and Lama Tenzin of Continental Restaurant in Bara Bazaar.
According to police, they were convicted under Section 53 of the Meghalaya Excise Act and sentenced to seven days of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000, Rs 1,800 and Rs 1,500, respectively.
The convicted persons are habitual offenders as they were previously convicted under the Meghalaya Police Act.
