SHILLONG: The High Court will take up the pending petition demanding CBI probe into the education scam on Thursday even as the petitioner in an affidavit filed before the Court on Wednesday made a distinction between the case pending before the Supreme Court and the petition filed before the High Court.
The affidavit filed by the petitioner Agnes Kharshiing rejected the stand of the government that the petition filed in High Court and the Special Leave Petition pending in Supreme Court is similar.
Kharshiing alleged that the intention of the government is to help those people involved in the scam including high profile officials, politicians, and a minister to go scot free.
According to the petitioner, the matter pending before Supreme Court is relating to     challenging the order of the High Court order for constituting the High Level Scrutiny Committee, whereas the petition filed by her before the Court is related to the delay in action on the part of the police on the FIR filed in 2010 for manipulation of marks of deserving candidates which involves criminal liability.
According to the petitioner, since the case involves high profile politicians including the then Education Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, the probe into the matter should be handed over to an independent agency like the CBI instead of the state police which will have administrative and political compulsions.
