Auto-rickshaw driver ‘murdered’
Police on Wednesday recovered the body of an auto-rickshaw driver from West Garo Hills. The auto-rickshaw driver Md. Safiqul Islam (26) was reportedly missing since September 5. His body, with the hands and legs tied, was recovered from Rajpur Ferry Ghat. Police suspect that the driver has been murdered.
Three-year-old raped
In a shocking incident a three-year-old girl was raped in Lummuriap village in East Jaintia Hills. According to police the accused has been identified as one Sony Lyngdoh.
Woman commits suicide
The body of a woman identified as Bhunty Kati of Umsohkhwai village was recovered from Jirang river in Ri Bhoi on Wednesday. Ri Bhoi SP GD Kharwanlang said that there was no murder angle into the incident which apparently seems to be a case of suicide.
Woman rescued from kidnappers
A woman from Garobadha was rescued by people when she raised an alarm after being abducted by unknown miscreants in a tempo. The incident happened on September 4 when the woman was forced inside the tempo by three unknown miscreants at Garobadha. However, she was rescued by the public and taken to Kalapani police station in Assam before being brought back to Garobadha.
Domestic violence
One Amrita Roy of Nabinpally, Tura lodged a complaint that her husband Rajesh Roy has been torturing her and her four-year-old daughter physically and mentally for want of dowry.
11 injured in road mishaps
Nine persons were injured on Wednesday when two Maruti cars collided at 7th Mile in Upper Shillong. Police said the incident happened on Wednesday around 9.30 pm. Eight passengers and the driver of a car sustained injuries and are admitted in a hospital.
In another incident, a rider travelling to Dalu from Tura sustained injuries when his two-wheeler collided with an SUV coming from the opposite direction. The incident happened at Darenggre in West Garo Hills District around 4.30pm on Wednesday. The injured man, 36-year-old Chengbat R. Marak, has been admitted in Tura Civil Hospital.
A two-wheeler travelling to Guwahati crashed into a wall at Shangbangla in Ri Bhoi’s Umling Block around 5pm on Wednesday. The pillion rider, 21-year-old Arpan Baruah, sustained injuries and has been shifted to Nongpoh Civil Hospital.
City man ‘duped’
Roland Diengdoh, a resident of Malki, has lodged a complaint saying he was duped by unknown miscreants who told him that he had won Rs 12 lakh lottery amount. Diengdoh said he received the call on September 7.
