Ex-GNLA cadres’ robbery plan foiled

SHILLONG: The Special Cell of East Khasi Hills Police has averted a robbery planned by former GNLA cadres.
East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang said his office received a tip-off that some former GNLA cadres were planning to rob a highway petrol pump. ) One of the members of the group, Nobin D. Sangma of Tikrikilla Nidanpur, was identified and on interrogation admitted to the fact that he was planning a robbery with two others.
At his information two factory made .22 pistols and nine .22 live ammunition were found in a bamboo groove under a rock at Ward’s Lake.
Police said they were scouting out on which petrol pump to commit the heist on but they were arrested before they could commit the crime.
Nobin later led police to two other ex-GNLA cadres – Salgra D. Sangma (18) of Dalu, West Garo Hills, and Sengsang R. Marak (28) of Resubelpara, North Garo Hills – who were part of the plot. They were later arrested.
Police have registered a case under the Arms Act and attempt to commit robbery. Interrogation is on to ascertain their involvement in other crimes.
