MUDA encroachment, de-notification of census towns discussed
SHILLONG: Local MDC and Mawlai Block Congress Committee (MBCC) member PT Sawkmie has sought the intervention of Urban Affairs Minister Ronnie V Lyngdoh on various issues including alleged encroachment by MUDA, de-notification of census towns and shifting of dumping ground at Mawiong, Mawlai to another site.
Speaking to reporters after meeting Lyngdoh here on Thursday, Sawkmie said, “The minister has assured to examine the issues.”
Stating that the “encroachment by MUDA” has caused undue hardships to the people who have to seek no objection certificates or building permission from the urban body to construct a house, Sawkmie said, “We have urged the minister to allow the headman to issue permission to residents constructing a new house.”
Sawkmie also demanded that the state government should de-notify 10 census towns which include Mawlai, Mawpat, Pynthorumkhrah, Nongmensong, Nongthymmai, Umpling, Madanryting, Nongkseh, Umlyngka and Lawsohtun.
He also called for shifting the dumping site from Mawlai to another location.
