SHILLONG: The Garo Students Union and the Association for Development and Empowerment (ADE) in Garo Hills have demanded immediate termination of Smyrna M. Marak, an assistant teacher of Rongsigre SSA UP School, South Garo Hills, alleging that she was absent from duty since 2012.
In a memorandum submitted to the District Mission Coordinator, South Garo Hills, the two groups said the attendance record sheet of the school showed that Marak reported for duty till March 6, 2012.
“After this, a series of proxy teachers were illegally appointed who reported to duty in( her place,” the groups said.
GSU and ADE also held a meeting with villagers at Rongsigre SSA UP School recently to discuss the issue. Pointing out that Marak’s salary has been withheld only in June 2016 after almost four years since the time she remained absent from school, the groups asked why no action was taken in 2012 against the erring teacher.
