Wansuk named in panel for Switzerland visit

New Delhi: Lone Rajya Sabha member from Meghalaya, Wansuk Syiem, will be part of a delegation leaving for Switzerland next month to attend a meeting of the International Parliamentary Union.
The 12-member parliamentary delegation led by Sumitra Mahajan will be leaving for Switzerland on October 23 for five days.
Syiem is the lone parliamentarian from the North East in the delegation which consists of eminent MPs from different parts of the country.
The IPU will hold elections to appoint its president and vice-presidents for the 135th Assembly. It will also have a general debate on human rights abuses as precursors of conflict and freedom of women to participate in political processes fully, IPU sources said.
