SHILLONG: Speaker AT Mondal will inform the House on Wednesday, the third day of the autumn session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, whether the notice of the Opposition on no-confidence motion against the Government will be admitted.
On the second day of the session on Monday, Mondal had said if 10 members supported the motion, it could be considered for discussion in the House.
The Opposition served the notice of no-confidence motion on Monday citing overall failure of the State government at a time when the resolution seeking removal of the Speaker was fixed for discussion on Friday. The letter was jointly signed by NPP legislator James Sangma, UDP member Jemino Mawthoh and HSPDP’s Ardent Basaiawmoit.
It was learnt that Chief Minister Mukul Sangma held a meeting with some Independents and his close associates on Tuesday to secure their commitment to the MUA-II government.
According to the Opposition, law and order problems, financial crunch and crime against women and children are causes for concern.
