SHILLONG: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Wahlang 9 Kyntoit, East Khasi Hills, which is a conglomeration of 10 traditional heads of Wahlang 9 Kyntoit, has asked the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to suspend the Syiem of Hima Nongspung Patrick Syiem for allegedly harassing the residents of the village.
Addressing media persons here on Wednesday secretary of JAC Wahlang 9 Kyntoit Kelingstar Rani said that a delegation of the committee met the Executive Member in charge of Elaka and Pynshngaiñ N. Syiem Chief Executive Member (CEM) KHADC on August 23 to submit a petition demanding the suspension of the Syiem.
“He (the Syiem) refused to issue sanad (appointment letter) to the new Sordar of Wahlang 9 Kyntoit, Swonding Khasaiñ  since he is close to the previous Sordar Dingping Nongrang who had been removed,” he claimed.  “The KHADC had directed the Syiem of Hima Nongspung to convene a general meeting within two weeks but to no avail,” he added.
Eldi Snaimi, chairman of the JAC urged the KHADC to look into the demands of the public so as to maintain stability and unity in the village. “We urge the KHADC to examine the matter within a week failing which we will be compelled to march towards the Council,”   he said.
Meanwhile, the JAC appealed to the District Council Affairs (DCA) department to recall the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Nomination and Election of the Syiem and Elector of Nongspung Syiemship) Bill, 2016 of Hima Nongspung to KHADC alleging that certain portions of the Bill is contrary to the customary laws of administration in the Hima.
