SHILLONG: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) should involve research scholars in various universities for better public sharing of information on space technology, said Chairman A S Kiran Kumar on Saturday.
Kumar, who was addressing the first Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial Lecture at University of Science and Technology here, said, “Researchers, scientists and academic members of different universities must work together. Only then can we move towards a developed nation. Instead of shifting to developed countries like Europe or the US or any other part of the world, we must work in our country and that way we can achieve the real societal development.” The ISRO Chairman added that the co-operation would help in sharing more information on different applications and ISRO’s space technologies with the public. Kumar also spoke about his association with Kalam.
P.L.N Raju, Director of the North East Space Research Centre, spoke about different space research programmes that the institute has taken up for the development of society. Meanwhile, Kumar said ISRO had a humble beginning but now it has completed almost 140 mission launches and operating 35 satellites in the orbit.
