NONGSTOIN: The Mawshynrut Circle of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has urged Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to clarify the progress in upgrading Mawshynrut administrative unit to civil sub-division.
The KSU unit president, Armstrong Sohshang, said over telephone that for more than two decades, Mawshynrut, one of the backward regions in Meghalaya, has been run by the administrative unit but people here want the upgrade for the development of the area on a par with the rest of the State.
Armstrong said, “People don’t want a sub-division, which is only in theory, but a fully functional sub-division with all facilities.”
It may be mentioned that the Chief Minister on March 14, during the Assembly session, had announced the upgrade plan for Mawsynrut administrative unit along with four new community and rural development blocks and 15 new police stations.
