NPP leader dies of cardiac arrest

TURA: One of Tura Bazar’s well known faces and a close family friend of Late P A Sangma, Bibash Das, has died after suffering a massive cardiac arrest on Tuesday afternoon.
56-year-old Bibash Das was the working president of the National People’s Party (NPP) district committee at the time of his demise.
He was a member of the Central Puja Committee (CPC) of Garo Hills and the convenor of the Thakurbari Committee.
On Tuesday noon he suffered a heart attack and was rushed to a hospital in Tura but died on the way.
Friends with the Late Purno Sangma since the latter’s days in the Congress party, he went along with the former Lok Sabha speaker when the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) was formed along with Sharad Pawar, and Tariq Anwar on May 25, 1999 after the trio’s expulsion from the Congress for questioning Sonia Gandhi’s Italian origins.
During his tenure in the NCP he was its vice president in-charge of the plain belt region of Garo Hills. He was also a former ward commissioner of the Tura municipal board and adviser of the Tura Masjid.
Conrad condoles death: Tura MP Conrad K Sangma has expressed shock over the sudden death of Late Bibash Das and offered his condolences to the family.
“He (Late Bibash Das) was from the era of my late father P A Sangma. He was extremely close to our family and was a dedicated worker committed to the people and the party. It is very sad to hear of his passing away,” said Conrad Sangma, condoling the NPP leader’s death.
